Details
The delegation, including Clemens Binninger (MP), Stephan Mayer (MP), permanent commissioner of the PKGr Arne Schlattmann and other German security experts, discussed the current security situation in the Asia-Pacific region. Especially maritime and cyber security were indicated as future problems in the region.
Former Japanese Vice-Minister of Defense for International Affairs pointed out the importance of US-activism for the regions stability. Without US-military presence maritime security could no longer be guaranteed in the area. Japan and South Korea would be no match for militarily advanced China. For him, the three main conflicts in the area are the North Korea case, the rivalry between Japan and China and the Japanese-Russian dispute concerning the Northern Territories.
According to the ongoing North Korea dispute Yoko Nitta, Senior Fellow at the Japan Society for Security and Management (JSSC) mentioned the importance of cyber security for Japan. Furthermore all states should be prepared for cyber and hybrid warfare in near future. A key role comes to China as a global player in cyber warfare/security.
In the discussion the roles of China and Russia for stability in the Asia-Pacific region were highlighted.
German-Japanese cooperation’s are necessary because both countries will face the same problems in near future.
