Details

Technology is changing the way we work, learn, and consume. Digital solutions have helped governments and businesses navigate the disruptions caused by the COVID19 pandemic, accelerating the shift to a digital future. Although technology can be a lifeline, it can also exacerbate unequal outcomes in education, employment, access to health care and financial services. The divide between the digitally connected and un/disconnected has amplified social and economic inequalities.

How does technology, digitalization, and other relevant forces shape the future of work in Asia? How can governments and businesses prepare the workforce for the digital future? In this vein, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s (KAS) Regional Economic Programme Asia (SOPAS) invites submissions for unpublished papers on the future of work in Asia.

Topics should include any of the following:

  • The impact of automation on jobs (e.g., services, manufacturing, agriculture, etc.)
  • Required skills and education of the future workforce (i.e., policy support to building human capacities, education restructuring, young people and the future of work perspectives)
  • Business competitiveness (i.e., SMEs, start-ups growth and the digital evolution)
  • Public sector support and changes in the policy framework (i.e., regulatory frameworks, legal challenges, financing, social consequences, new modes of social protection)

Policy-oriented contributions on Asia, either as a region or individual country studies or sub-regions are encouraged.

KAS SOPAS will provide an honorarium of 900 EUR for each accepted paper. Accepted papers will also be published by KAS SOPAS in an edited book volume.

Important dates:

  • Initial abstract submission: April 30, 2021
  • Notification of acceptance: May 14, 2021
  • Draft paper: July 15, 2021
  • Final paper: August/September 2021
