Details

Against the backdrop of historical developments in each country a number of questions are being raised. In the age of accelerating globalisation what is the significance of the concept of the nation or the nation state? In understanding the space between nations, which role does the region play and what is the significance of regional integration? Will the European model remain an exceptional case of regional integration? Does the European Union still have exemplary character or is it rather a discontinued model? What does the future hold for regional integration in East Asia? Will we witness the return to nationalism or will sub-national and transnational along with cosmopolitan identities and organisations gain social and political importance in the foreseeable future?
