Conlcuding their visit to Japan Dr. Karl-A. Lamers, Dr. Karl-Heinz Kamp and Michael Rühle met with the former Japanese Ambassador to Germany HE Takahiro Shinyo, the former Parliamentary Vice-Minister, Yasuhide Nakayama, as well as the German Consul General, Dr. Alexander Olbrich, and his deputy, Consul Florian at a final closed experts' meeting in Osaka.

Topics for discussion included the conventional and non-traditional security challenges in Asia, future perspectives of the United States, China and Russia in the region as well as an evaluation of the NATO intervention in Afghanistan and seizable formats of continued engagement after 2014. The German experts also took the opportuniy for questions on the current developments in Japan's domestic politics and different scenarios of their future course.

In the discussion, Professor Satoh from the Osaka School of International Public Policy iterated the need of flexible concepts for an accurate assessment of both the security situation in Asia and the role of individual actors in the region and worldwide.

In an interesting and intensive discussion the experts elaborated in detail on the role of the most important security actors in the region including the United States, China and Russia especially also with regard to their relations to Japan.
