Consultative Workshop for young parliamentarians and key youth organizations in Kenya - Foundation Office Kenya
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung under the aegis of the Country Programme Kenya held its first meeting between the young Members of the National Assembly and representatives of 20 different youth organizations in Nairobi on the 29th July 2013. The meeting was organized by Hon. Zuleikha Hassan with the participation of Hon. Isaak Mwaura and Hon. Johnson Sakaja as well as representatives of NDI, the Inter Party Youth Forum, the National Youth Council and the Youth Senate Kenya.
At this meeting participants discussed the challenges the youth of Kenya is facing and opportunities existing to support the young people. Mentioned challenges include unemployment, lack of information, the responsibility of the government to improve the education for all young people and the importance of participation by the youth in politics.
The idea of this meeting is to form a network which can help and support the youth in their different challenges. All those 20 different youth organizations shared their enthusiasm to work together with the Members of the National Assembly in a more structured way. This will enable them to focus on some common key issues the network stands for. Furthermore the network will prepare different legislative proposals to create awareness in the government for the problems the youth of Kenya is facing.
