Following the welcome and an introduction to the objectives of the seminar, the first session focused on the role of political youth organisations. Discussions centred on how young political actors can serve as a bridge between political parties, society and Europe. Beyond their role in election campaigns, youth organisations can make an important contribution to political education, the development of political initiatives and the identification and development of future political leaders.
A further focus was placed on geopolitical developments and political responsibility. Participants discussed current international challenges and their implications for political communication in Croatia and Slovenia. Particular attention was given to the importance of responsible political action with a long-term perspective and to the need to address polarising narratives and external influence efforts in a constructive and informed manner.
During a practical group exercise, participants analysed hypothetical election campaign scenarios. They identified polarising and oversimplified communication patterns and developed alternative messages based on facts, sound arguments and inclusiveness. The exercise was complemented by discussions on the practical requirements of local election campaigns, the mobilisation of young members, and the strategic role of youth organisations in developing future political leadership.
Another session focused on the European perspective of the Western Balkans. Participants reflected on the experiences of Croatia and Slovenia in the European integration process and discussed the role young political actors can play in strengthening regional cooperation and supporting the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries.
The practical part of the seminar concluded with a simulated TV debate between young political representatives from Croatia and Slovenia. The exercise enabled participants to put their skills in argumentation, public speaking and handling critical questions into practice, while also learning how to engage in political disagreement in a constructive manner. The subsequent debriefing provided an opportunity for reflection and for transferring the lessons learned to future political and public engagements.
The seminar concluded with a discussion on future cooperation between the two youth organisations. Possible formats included joint workshops, study visits, communication training, the exchange of experiences from election campaigns, and joint activities focusing on European and regional policy issues.
The seminar combined political education, practical skills development and cross-border networking. It strengthened dialogue and exchange among young political actors from Croatia and Slovenia and provided impulses for continued cooperation. At the same time, it highlighted the contribution young political actors can make to democratic resilience, responsible political participation and the further development of European cooperation in the region.
