The Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University (ACFJ) will hosts the exhibition from August 1 to 23.
ACFJ, a center of the Department of Communication, is joined by the Netherlands Embassy, Unilever, SM Supermalls and BusinessWorld in bringing the internationally acclaimed exhibit to local audiences.
It will be on view at the Podium, August 1-8; The Block North EDSA, August 9-14; and Mall of Asia,
August 15 – 23. Admission is free.
The annual exhibit shows the winning photos in the annual World Press Contest, the international competition for news and features photography run by the World Press Photo since 1952.
The exhibit of 196 photos will travel to 62 countries until 2010.
Dr. Violet B. Valdez, ACFJ executive director, says ACFJ has sponsored the show since 2007 to underscore its goal of fostering excellent standards in journalism, including those in photojournalism. She explains that in a world that “has become highly visual, the visual representation of events defines public perception and opinion .” Photography has acquired even greater significance in the reporting of domestic and world affairs, and in bringing these to the public, she elaborates.
ACFJ’s photojournalism program was initiated in 2006 jointly with the World Press Photo.
The competition and the traveling exhibit have been run by the World Press Photo since 1955.
