Details

The department of Legal Drafting of the Federal Ministry of Justice is responsible for drafting and vetting of executive bills for presentation by the President to the National Assembly and drafting of bills for the domestication of international conventions and treaties to which Nigeria is a party will be trained on contemporary best practices in legal drafting which includes structure and content of bills in accordance with laid down standards. Other themes in the capacity building workshop will include introduction to legislative drafting – the qualities, qualification, role and responsibilities of a legal draftsperson; amendment and repeal of legislation; structure of the bill (preliminary, miscellaneous and final provisions); bill scrutiny and analysis; sentence structure in legislative drafting - paragraphing, numbering, punctuations and gender sensitivity; and public hearing and stakeholders’ meetings:  the role of a draftsperson, among other topics. The seminar is part of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s support to democracy, rule of law and good governance in Nigeria.
