The official program commenced with a welcoming address delivered by Daniel Braun, Official representative of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in North Macedonia. He emphasized the unique role a political foundation holds in a small country like North Macedonia, maintaining close connections with political decision-makers, academia, and key figures in civil society. Braun highlighted not only the Foundation’s trustworthy and constructive work on the ground, but also its role as an ambassador for North Macedonia in Germany, enhancing the country’s visibility and understanding throughout the activities conducted. His recognition of the longstanding dedication of the local KAS staff, was echoed throughout the keynote speeches that followed.

Following Daniel Braun’s welcoming address, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski acknowledged the enduring presence of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in North Macedonia’s political landscape. He underlined the Foundation’s contribution to shaping the country’s youth, particularly through its educational and civic initiatives. Mickoski further reflected on a time when his party, VMRO-DPMNE, was faced with widespread skepticism, noting that the Konrad Adenauer Foundation had remained a steady partner throughout, and expressing that this long-standing cooperation, now within the context of governing responsibility, will contribute to North Macedonia’s progress toward its European aspirations.

Building on VMRO-DPMNE’s government role, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and former President of the German Bundestag, underscored the long-term impact of the Foundation’s scholarship program, highlighting its role in shaping future leaders both in Germany and abroad. He pointed to the example of Chancellor Friedrich Merz as a testament to the program’s influence within the German political sphere, noting that this legacy extends to North Macedonia as well, where former KAS scholars are now contributing within the country’s own government structures.

The keynote speeches were rounded off by H.E. Petra Drexler, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to North Macedonia. In her remarks, she underlined the importance of North Macedonia as part of the European community and thus also the significant impact that the work of the Adenauer Foundation has had in this country and for the European project over the past 25 years.

The ceremonial program was concluded with the screening of a video showcasing the Foundation’s work and engagement in North Macedonia, available on the official website. Daniel Braun then invited guests to continue their conversations during a cocktail reception, providing an opportunity for informal exchange.

The event served as both a reflection on the past and a moment to look ahead. The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is grateful for the trust, collaboration, and dialogue that have shaped its work in North Macedonia over the years. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to supporting constructive engagement, strong institutions and a shared European future.
