In the Presence of his Excellency Yahya Yakhluf, the Minister of Culture in the Palestinian Authority, and the participations of many Palestinian intellectuals, on August 11, 2005 Al-Kasaba Theater & Cinematheque, together with Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAF) opened its Cinema Days on “The Israeli Image in Palestinian Cinema.”

The Festival will last for a week and will present 18 movies by Palestinian directors presenting as the main subject the varying views on Israelis during different eras of the conflict since 1967.

This Project is funded by KAF, in continuation of last year’s project entitled “The image of Palestinians in Israeli Cinema.”

At the opening, Mr. George Ibrahim, Al-Kasaba director addressed the audience thanking Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation for funding this festival that will shed light on how the Israeli image was developed in Palestinians’ films over the years.

Mr. Birringer, KAF Resident Representative to the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, thanked his Excellency the Minister of Culture and the audience for their attendance, explaining how cultural events are playing an important role in understanding and reaching the other. In the long rung, culture can change people’s minds and contributes a lot to the peace process.

Al-Kasaba intends to hold four seminars during the week on issues related to the Palestinian cinema in general and the Palestinian point of view towards the Israelis.
