Thomas Birringer discussed the political situation with the participants and informed them about the importance of the work of KAS Ramallah.
Jörg Ranau, counsellor and German representative to the Palestinian Territories, talked to the Thuringians about the tasks of the German representative office and its special position as a representation in a state which is not yet in existence.
In a briefing with the public relations division of NSU (Negotiation Support Unit), an office of the PLO which is responsible for conducting analysis and research for negotiations with Israel, the Thuringian participants obtained background information about the movement restrictions faced by the Palestinians and the meaning of East-Jerusalem for economy, education and culture.
A meeting with Dr. Maria Khoury, former Public Relations Director of the International Academy of Art in Palestine, and Suleiman Mansour, a well-known Palestinian artist, co-founder and director of this academy, allowed for a direct exchange of experiences between German and Palestinian artists. Finally, the delegation visited the Ramallah music school and had a conversation with its teachers and project coordinators. Within the framework of these meetings and conversations the possibility of future exchange programmes in the field of music and art was discussed.
