Opening of the Refugee Movie Festival

In the presence of numerous representatives of the public life, of politics and culture, the film festival about Refugees was opened by Al-Kasaba and KAS on May 24th 2007.

As Thomas Birringer, Resident Representative of KAS in Ramallah underlined at the opening, the goal of the festival is to raise awareness on the fate of refugees all around the world and to encourage discussion.

George Ibrahim, the Director of Al-Kasaba addressed the audience thanking Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation for their support and the audience for showing high interest. He pointed out his own experience as a refugee and explained that the sentiments refugees have are well expresses in the movies.

In the audience were about 200 people who watched the opening film and attended the reception which took part after the screening.

During the festival, movies about destinys of refugees in Germany, from the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, the former Yugoslavia, Sierra Leone and Liberia were shown.

Apart from Ramallah, there will be movie screenings in Nablus, Jenin and Bethlehem, where movies will be presented in schools, universities and refugee camps. In discussions, which will take place after the screenings the contents of the movies will be reviewed and reflected.
