Event reports
Maha Staiti from Jenin was elected new chairman of the executive committee of the BYC. This consists of two members per region and gives out the basic directives of the council. Her election is a novelty in the history of the BYC and documents the gender equality within the council. Besides that, Maha Staiti is now the link between KAS, IPCC and BYC.
On the occasion of the election of the new chairman, Adeeb Saleem from IPCC presented a discussion about elections in general. Two factors of the current domestic political situation in the Palestinian Territories affected the discussion: The precarious situation of the Palestinian government (PA) after the separation of the Gaza Strip and the incapability of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) to resume its work due to the high number of PLC representatives held in Israeli prisons. Those topics were being actively discussed by the members.
After Mona Qutob, project manager of IPCC, had officially opened the meeting, members of the six regions reported about the development of BYC in their region. In short presentations the speakers pointed out grievances and problems, but also improvements which have been accomplished throughout BYC in the Palestinian Territories.
The members, mostly students, are from all five regions of the West Bank (Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus and Jenin) and East-Jerusalem. Within the frame of different workshops and training sessions the members receive the opportunity to strengthen their individual abilities.
