Institute of Law and Palestinian Ministry of Labour signing Memorandum of Understanding

On 17 February 2011, the Institute of Law and the Palestinian Ministry of Labour signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Rights at the Birzeit University.

On 17 February 2011, the Institute of Law (IoL), a longtime partner of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ramallah, and the Palestinian Ministry of Labour signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Labour Rights at the Birzeit University. The Palestinian Labour Minister Dr. Ahmed Majdalani and the President of the Birzeit University, Prof. Khalil Hindi, gave a brief explanation and signed the MoU. Also present were Dr. Ghassan Faramand, Director of IoL, and Felix Dane, Resident Representative of KAS Ramallah.

The MoU states that it will “emphasize the desire of both parties in building a relationship based on partnership and cooperation to carry out in a comprehensive review for labour legislations governing the employment sector in the Palestinian territories, to ensure the Ministry’s terms of reference on several specializations, including occupational health and safety, inspection, tripartite social dialogue, union organization, labour disputes”

The conclusion of the MoU was partly the result of a visit by Palestinian legal experts to Germany, France and Luxembourg in September 2010 organised by KAS Ramallah. Employees of IoL and the Ministry of Labour were among the participants.
