The European Debt crisis has generated numerous debates within Asia about the role and efficacy of the EU in strengthening economic and political co-operation. A crucial aspect to examine is how Germany, being the strongest economy in the EU, has responded in its legal decisions related to the crisis and how this has affected the development of the rule of law.

Towards this end, Marc Spitzkatz, Director Regional Rule of Law Programme Asia of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation delivered a lecture on the ‘Recent Decisions of the German Constitutional Court in the context of the European debt crisis’ at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi on Sep 20, 2012. The lecture was attended by numerous Supreme Court advocates as well as Judges and Members of Parliament.
