A Debating tournament on the International Human Rights Day

In conjunction with the International Human Rights Day the Malaysian Bar Council Human Rights Committee is organizing a debating tournament on human rights to advocate human rights and promote the idea of free speech.

Details

With the event, the Bar Council wants to promote the freedom of speech and create greater awareness and education of human rights standards. Furthermore, its aim is to develop the art of debating and intellectual discourse among the public and students, in line with the Malaysian Prime Ministers emphasis on human capital development and the competent use of the English language.

The tournament, organized already for the second time, will be held at the University of Kuala Lumpur. An estimated 200 guests from Southeast Asian countries but also India and the United Kingdom will participate. The format of the debates will be that of the British Parliament, and event guests will also be the adjudicators of the debate.
