This event is co-organized in partnership with the Institute for Autonomy and Governance (IAG), Philippines, and will bring together a diverse group of participants, including delegates from Embassies in the Asia and the Pacific, US and Europe, as well as representatives from the legislative and judicial branches of the Philippines, consultants and scholars. With the upcoming Philippine Presidential and Legislative Elections to be held on 9 May 2016, the discussion on the issues of decentralization, self-governance and autonomy have been revived and this event presents a valuable opportunity for the relevant stakeholders to learn from experiences gained locally as well as internationally, and to share knowledge and expertise with one another as they seek to explore strategies and approaches to ensuring effective decentralization and local governance that deepens democracy and is viewed with legitimacy and respect by its citizens.
