The Malaysian seminar on Forest Management and Mining Laws in Southeast Asia followed the successful initial round of the second annual Environment Law talks that was previously held in Cebu, Philippines.

Details

The second of the three-part series was organized in co-operation with the University of Malaya and focused on the Malaysian experience of the legislative and community response to deforestation, mining and critical environmental issues arising as a consequence of the phenomena in Malaysia.

This included topics such as sand mining, illegal logging, the development of eco-tourism and the impacts of deforestation and mining on the Orang Asli of Malaysia. The seminar concluded with a brief visit to the well-known Forest Research Institute, Malaysia (FRIM) to learn and revisit the forest conservation efforts in Malaysia.

The last and final batch of environment talks shall be held in Makassar, Indonesia in collaboration with Hasanuddin University.
