Details

The conference is intended to enable African stakeholders to discuss key G20 priorities emerging out of the Argentine G20 Presidency and incoming Japanese G20 Presidency thereby enabling a more active participation of Africa in key global political, economic and developmental processes.

The 2018 G20 Summit hosted by Argentina once again highlighted growing concerns about continued economic volatility and instability globally. Many of these challenges which are of close interest to Africa will continue under the Japanese G20 leadership as the world grows increasingly connected, but in some respects also alarmingly apart.

This conference will seek to bring together representatives and participants of the T20 African Standing Group to discuss key G20 priorities emerging out of the Argentine G20 Presidency and incoming Japanese G20 Presidency with broader African stakeholders. The event will kick off with a high-level panel from the National Treasury and DIRCO; the incoming chair of the T20 responsible for Africa, Dr Yasuo Fujita; and the Chief Executive of the NEPAD Agency, Dr. Ibrahim Assane Mayaki. The panel will discuss the key take-aways for Africa of the G20 meeting in Argentina and the key G20 priorities for the continent during the coming year.

The first session will discuss the changing landscape of infrastructure finance, in particular the development of infrastructure as an asset class, followed by a panel discussion on enhancing the sustainability of infrastructure development through better debt management, involvement of women and stronger environmental safeguards. The second session will include a panel discussion on combatting illicit financial flows, specifically focusing on trade mispricing, while the last session will consider the future of the world of work against the background of the digital transformation of the work place.
