This session was attended by community media such as radio stations and newspaper, as well as the mainstream media such as the SABC.
The Electoral Manager at IEC (Electoral Commission of South Africa) Mawethu Mosery delivered the keynote address with emphasis on the need for the media to work together with communities to ensure that the upcoming elections are free, fair and peaceful.
According to the convener of this session, DDP’s Programs Coordinator Brain Bhengu, it is very important to build a cadre of genuinely capacitated and informed citizenry. “The intension of this engagement was to increase DDP’s (as civil society organization) reach and depth of messaging and education.
The session ended with a discussion amongst the delegates who came up with possible solutions and means working together as the media to deliver healthy content to their audiences before and after the elections.
