Through the role that the ILO has played since its foundation in 1919, a variety of international and minimum standards for labour law and social security have been established. Despite the positive effects of international and minimum labour and social security standards, there are a number of deficiencies within the existing standards as provided by the UN system (including the ILO) and in regional instruments.
