During this period, the University will undertake a series of activities in memory of historical achievements registered over the years as well as launch milestone projects in her endeavor to build for the future.
To kick start mak@90 celebrations, the Makerere University Convocation (MUC) and the Konrad Adenuer Stiftung (KAS) are organizing an invitational lecture in honor of Dr. Martin Aliker under the theme “The Role Of The Academia In Building A Sustainable Private Sector: The Case Of Dr. Martin Aliker” to be held in the University main hall on the 2nd of August 2012 starting at 2:00pm. Other sponsors contacted include; Monitor publications, Stanbic bank, Uganda Insurance Corporation, and Hima Cement.
This half-day lecture will provide an opportunity for stakeholders including the Academia to share the Dr.Martin Aliker experiences in multi-tasking as a member of the Academia active in government and an epitome of the private sector in Uganda. Dr.Martin Aliker who in his life has been a founder, member or chaired boards of leading enterprises in Uganda will give a key note address detailing his practical experience as a distinguished figure in the Academia and private sector. Eminent personalities who have seen Dr. Martin Aliker sail through the Academia –private sector experience including Prof. Fred Kayanja of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, and Mr. Hanington Karuhanga MD Stanbic Bank will discuss a paper presented by Dr. William Kalema on the theme of the day.
The public lecture will offer a platform to the Alumni and other stakeholders to contribute to the academia’s meaningful visibility and lack of it in governance, private sector and socio-economic environment of Uganda.
Although the lecture will mainly draw the participation of the academia, business community and civil society, invitations will be extended to prominent alumni and friends of Martin Aliker and Makerere University, members of the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary, as well as researchers, political activists and the media.
