Furthermore, it attended to the case studies, contrasting and lastly relating the two nations of Poland and the Ukraine.

Europe’s security environment is changing. Russia’s aggressive actions challenge the post-Cold War peace order. New hybrid threats, including cyber warfare and non-state actors, require NATO to adapt in order to preserve the freedom and security of member states. Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary-General, provided his insights on these questions and NATO’s response at an event hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies on May 27th, 2015 as part of the Statesmen’s Forum Series, which fosters conversation between global political leaders and the U.S. community.

On Wednesday May 27, 2015 the World Resources Institute held a panel discussion at the National Press Club to present their 10-Point Plan on how to reach and exceed the greenhouse gas emission targets set by the United States as part of the forthcoming international agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Panelists representing all sectors were in agreement that the technology is available to realize these goals and that the need for change goes beyond issues of climate change.

PEW Studie zum deutsch-amerikanischen Verhältnis von Bruce Stokes

Die Öffentlichkeit steht mit großer Mehrheit zum deutsch-amerikanischen Verhältnis, doch werden einige Unterschiede bei der Beurteilung verschiedener Politikfelder sichtbar. Dies ergab eine Studie des PEW Research Center, die in Kooperation mit der Bertelsmann-Stiftung erarbeitet und nun in Washington D.C. vorgestellt wurde. Dabei flossen in die Bewertung gegenwärtige Diskussionen wie die um das Freihandelsabkommen TTIP als auch historische Ereignisse wie der Marshallplan und der Fall der Mauer mit ein. Für die Studie wurden jeweils ungefähr 1000 Amerikaner und ebenso viele Deutsche befragt.

On Wednesday May 20, 2015 the Microsoft Innovation and Policy Center held a panel discussion on the topic of powering 21st century cities with the internet of things (IoT). They focused on using data collected by the IoT to solve problems that modern cities face, and the roles that various stakeholders play in the innovation, procurement, and implementation of both products and policy. Keynote Speaker Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) warned that Government would inhibit innovation if it misunderstands the technology, legislates beyond what is necessary, and gets in the way.

A DISUSSION ON THE EVOLVING RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN INDUSTRY AND DEFENSE IN THE UNITED STATES HOSTED BY CSIS

The first in a series on Next Generation Dialogue on Industry and Defense, this event focused on how increased globalization of the defense industry is affecting and interacting with cultures of national security within government and the military. The aim of The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) series is to provide a location for dialogue on the relationship between industry and defense, with a goal of providing a framework for policy. The panel on April 30th, 2015 included industry, defense, and legal experts offering their perspectives on the current climate.

Diese Themen wurden diplomatisch von Vertretern beider Länder in einer Paneldiskussion im Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C. am 29. April 2015 aufgegriffen.
