What Future for Electoral Governance in Côte d’Ivoire? Reflections from the Symposium

In Abidjan, political actors, electoral experts and students exchanged views on the challenges and prospects of electoral governance reform in Côte d’Ivoire

On 24 and 25 September 2026, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in partnership with the Centre de Recherche et d’Action pour la Paix (CERAP), organised a symposium in Abidjan on electoral governance reform in Côte d’Ivoire. Over two days, political actors, civil society representatives, electoral experts and students discussed issues related to the management of elections, trust in the electoral process, the political participation of women and young people, and mechanisms for resolving electoral disputes. The discussions resulted in a number of recommendations aimed at supporting the ongoing reform process.

Youth Political Academy: Strengthening Youth Political Participation in West Africa

In Grand-Bassam, young political actors from several West African countries exchanged views on the challenges and prospects of youth political participation

From 14 to 16 October 2026, young political actors from Ghana, Liberia, Togo and Côte d’Ivoire gathered in Grand-Bassam for the Youth Political Academy, organised under the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s (KAS) WYDE (Women and Youth in Democracy) initiative in partnership with the European Union. Over three days, participants reflected on barriers to youth political participation, leadership development and strategies to strengthen young people’s influence in political and democratic processes.

Civic Education for Young People in Togo: Strengthening Citizenship and Civic Participation

In Lomé, young Togolese participants deepened their understanding of citizenship, public institutions, human rights and mechanisms for civic participation.

From 22 to 24 September 2026, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Togo and with the support of Global Change Consult, organised the national launch workshop of the programme “Civic Education for Young People in Togo 2026” in Lomé. Over the course of three days, participants from all five regions of Togo and Greater Lomé received training on the foundations of citizenship, human rights, local governance and civic leadership.

Sub-Regional Women’s Political Academy

Around 20 women in political leadership positions strengthened their leadership and influence skills through strategic communication, emotional intelligence and public speaking.

From 26 to 28 August 2026, around 20 women political leaders from Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Togo, Sierra Leone and Liberia gathered in Conakry for the third edition of the Sub-Regional Women’s Political Academy. The academy aimed to strengthen the skills required for credible, responsible and influential female leadership.

During the six-month training program, participants strengthened their skills in advocacy, leadership, governance and civic participation. The workshop also provided an opportunity to showcase initiatives developed by the young leaders for their communities and to reflect on their long-term sustainability.

On 1 August 2026 in Conakry, scholarship holders and alumni of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s (KAS) Regional Programme “Political Dialogue West Africa” (PDWA) held their national meeting under the theme “Youth Contributions to Political Dialogue and National Cohesion in Guinea.” The event provided an opportunity to reflect on ways to strengthen youth participation in political processes, promote intergenerational dialogue and develop initiatives supporting peace, national unity and democratic governance.

National Meeting of PDWA Scholarship Holders and Alumni in Togo

In Lomé, PDWA scholarship holders and alumni gathered for the second edition of their “Génération Citoyenne” initiative on the theme “Youth Engagement in the Digital Age”.

The national coordination of the Alumni Network of the Regional Programme "Political Dialogue West " (PDWA) in Togo held its semi-annual meeting with around 35 participants. Young leaders, students and committed civil society actors discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of digital technologies for citizenship and participation in public debate.

Political Communication and Women's Political Leadership

In Guinea, around 40 women strengthened their skills in leadership, political communication and mobilization to increase their influence.

Organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) in partnership with the "Cadre de Concertation des Filles et Femmes des Partis Politiques de Guinée" (CCFFPPG), this training brought together around 40 women engaged in political and public life. Over three days, participants strengthened their skills in leadership, political communication, public speaking, mobilization and campaign management. Through practical workshops and hands-on exercises, they developed concrete strategies to enhance their engagement and impact in support of more inclusive governance in Guinea.
