Welcome!

Freedom, justice and solidarity are the basic principles underlying the work of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). The KAS is a political foundation, closely associated with the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). As co-founder of the CDU and the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) united Christian-social, conservative and liberal traditions. His name is synonymous with the democratic reconstruction of Germany, the firm alignment of foreign policy with the transatlantic value community, the vision of a unified Europe and an orientation towards the social market economy. His intellectual heritage continues to serve as both our aim as well as our obligation until today.

Through our initiatives in European and International Cooperation, we strive after empowering individuals to live self-determined lives marked by freedom and dignity. We are committed to providing a values-driven contribution that enables Germany to meet its increasing responsibilities on the global stage.

We seek to engage individuals in collaboratively shaping a future aligned with these ideals. Operating through over 100 offices and projects across more than 80 countries, we actively contribute to the promotion of democracy, the rule of law, and the principles of a social market economy. In pursuit of peace and freedom, we facilitate ongoing dialogues in foreign and security policy as well as cultural and interfaith exchanges.

At the heart of our mission lies the individual, whose unique dignity, rights, and responsibilities form the basis for social justice, liberal democracy, and sustainable economic practices. By fostering connections among those who embrace their societal responsibilities, we cultivate active networks in the realms of politics, business, and civil society. Our political knowledge management enhances the potential to shape globalization in a manner that is socially equitable, ecologically sustainable, and economically viable.

We collaborate in partnership with governmental institutions, political parties, civil society organizations, and selected elites. Through our objectives and values, we particularly aim to deepen political collaboration in development policy on both regional and global scales. Together with our partners, we contribute to an international framework that enables each country to pursue development rooted in freedom and self-determination.

The Regional Programme Political Dialogue West Africa

Since 1992, our Regional Programme for Political Dialogue in West Africa (PDWA) has focused on the establishment and consolidation of democratic structures, as well as the cultivation of a democratic consciousness among the people. Grounded in the principles of the rule of law, we support the functionality of institutions and the qualitative enhancement of parliamentary and party activities.

Strengthening an active civil society remains a core objective of our programme. Through a variety of formats, including seminars, workshops, conferences, and dialogue forums, we actively promote political education and interreligious dialogue. An additional focal point for fostering regional socio-political exchange is our "Solution Think Tank" (STT) network, established in 2018, which comprises regional think tanks. Moreover, we are dedicated to improving economic policy frameworks within our project countries. Through national and regional dialogues, we advocate the principles of the social market economy and explore paths for regional development and integration.

Our programme, headquartered in Abidjan, has a regional scope that encompasses Côte d'Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. At the regional and national levels, our initiatives primarily benefit civil society actors, entrepreneurs, media professionals, think tanks, political decision-makers, and religious leaders.

In addition, we offer regional scholarships for master’s students and conduct comprehensive analyses regarding the current political landscape.
