Within its work on the new electoral law and the importance of political participation, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in cooperation with Leadership for Sustainable Development (LSD) organized two workshops under the auspices of two municipalities in Keserwan area on “The New Electoral law between Participation and Application”.

The first workshop took place in Haiyatah on the 19th of March 2018 with a remarkable presence of the village residents.

The second workshop was in Ghbaleh on 24 March 2018 where the mayor, Mr. Yousef Khairallah, emphasized on the role of the citizen in participating in the electoral process.

In the two workshops, Mr. Michel Daccache, president of LSD, presented the importance of effective citizenship and the role of the voter in the process of selecting his representatives followed by a detailed explanation of the new proportional electoral law.

Since the “responsibilization” and accountability principles in the political sector require the understanding of the reality of democratic participation in political life, KAS and LSD sought not only to simplify and explain the relative electoral law to the Lebanese citizens, but also to emphasize on the importance of participating in the electoral process as such – given that the 6th May 2018 parliamentary elections are the first to follow the last elections in 2009.
