On 4 September 2025, the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC) will host the Adenauer Media Lecture 2025, organised by KAS Media Africa. This year’s speaker, Prof. Dr. Claudia Nothelle from the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences, will address the theme, “Fake News and Fact-Checking: Understanding the Mechanisms Behind Modern Disinformation”.

In an age marked by algorithm-driven news feeds, AI-generated content, and polarised online echo chambers, disinformation has become an urgent challenge for democracies and media systems worldwide. Prof. Dr. Nothelle’s lecture will unpack how false information spreads - through influencers, so-called alternative media, and emerging technologies - and how these elements influence public trust and perception.

The Adenauer Media Lecture is an annual platform for critical reflection and dialogue on pressing media issues. The lecture is organised by KAS Media Africa at various universities in Africa. Leading journalists and media experts from Germany are invited to give lectures.
