Six journalists bring powerful stories, emotion and entertainment to the Wits Theatre.
Six journalists from South Africa and Germany took to the stage at the Wits Theatre in Johannesburg on 16 October 2026 for the second Reporter Slam South Africa. Through personal storytelling, music and performance, they offered the audience fascinating insights into their work and lives as reporters.
The audience crowned Herman Moloi of the Sowetan the winner of the evening. In his story, “Modern Day David and Goliath,” Moloi highlighted the importance of independent and critical journalism in holding powerful actors accountable.
Promise Marupeng delivered one of the evening’s most memorable performances. After opening with a dance, she shared the gripping story of her undercover investigation into a syndicate that forced women into prostitution.
Representing Germany, Cornelius Pollmer of Die ZEIT entertained the audience with his experience of visiting the laboratories of Stiftung Warentest, where products ranging from washing machines to hiking poles are put through extensive tests.
The evening also featured compelling stories from Liezle Wilson, Pontsho Pilane and Kgomotso Modise.
KAS Media Africa thanks all six slammers, the host, partners and audience members who contributed to this special evening.
