Workshop
Details
Using a political economy lens, SAIIA proposes to develop its own assessment model based on an aggregation of various indices and its own indicators to assess the development, economic and stability outlook of Southern African states... It is our objective to frame the model keeping in mind the horizontal development approach that the SDGs introduce, as well as Africa’s own ambitious development plans, such as Vision 2063. The outcome that we seek from the Regional Observatory is to succinctly identify key areas for regional and international cooperation.
We will be hosting a workshop on 16 November at Jan Smuts House that will be facilitated by Futurist, Tanja Hichert, who is also a Research Associate of the Institute of Futures Research at the University of Stellenbosch. The objective of the workshop is to draw on each participant’s individual expertise and knowledge of the Southern African region to develop a bespoke Horizon Scanning Methodology that will then be used in 2018 to bring out an Annual Forward Looking publication on key trends and developments as well as disruptors in the region. Each report will make policy recommendations to SADC member states as well as regional and continental bodies.
