On 15 October 2025, the first Reporter Slam South Africa will take place in Johannesburg. Five Journalists from across the country and one journalist from Germany will compete live against each other, giving the audience a behind-the-scenes glimpse into their experiences as reporters and editors. The added challenge: Their stories must be presented in a unique and creative way within ten minutes. The slammer whose story appeals most to the audience will win the competition.

The Reporter Slam is part of the Media Freedom Festival, scheduled for 14–16 October 2025 organised by Media Monitoring Africa and supported by the KAS Media Programme. The festival focuses on ongoing challenges in the Sub-Saharan media landscape. For more information click here.
