Ensuring social equality, democracy, managing social conflicts and boosting the role of social organisations and civil societies are among the main measures to ensure harmonious social development. The recommendation was made by Vietnam social scientists at the conference co-organised by the Institute of State and Law and KAS Vietnam.

Vietnam has gained remarkable achievements in economic development. However, there are some emerging issues putting the sustainability of the development at risk such as a widening gap between the rich and the poor, between rural and urban areas, environmental pollution, inadequate measures to protect human and citizens' rights. These pose the risk of conflicts disrupting the balance of the society. Undoubtedly, the government has a major role in maintaining harmonious social development. Thus, this seminar addresses the questions relating to the state governance for harmonious social development.
