Over the past few years, social networks have developed incredibly rapidly in the world as well as in Vietnam. With the potential of a new communication genre, social networks have created social forums for the public to share information. These networks have been informal sources for journalists to grasp breaking news but at the same time pose challenges to the traditional media. Thanks to social networks, journalists are now able to understand better tastes of their readers/customers. This is also an efficient channel for journalists to advertise their professional writings, and receive readers’ feedback. Nonetheless, journalists also face numerous challenges in detecting, checking and using information. Therefore, it is necessary for journalists to gather at a workshop to discuss the interaction between social networks and traditional journalism. This would be an opportunity for the journalists to share their experiences in taking advantages of the networks as well as avoiding their disadvantages.

The workshop will focus on the ways Vietnamese journalists use social networks to do their job.Attending the workshop will be representatives of main newspapers, media institutions, journalists, social networks experts and journalism managers.
