The nature of migration to the EU and in ASEAN is different, participants of the conference “Migration: Challenges and Opportunities for EU and ASEAN" heard yesterday.

While the conflict in Syria, the ongoing violence in Afghanistan and Iraq, abuses in Eritrea, as well as poverty in Kosovo are among the main drivers of migration to Europe, the migration in ASEAN is mainly a free flow of labour, a result of the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, Dr. Trinh Van Tung, director of University of Social Sciences and Humanities’ Faculty of Sociology analysed.

Most of the participants agreed that regardless of the difference, migration brings not only challenges but opportunities to the migrant-receiving countries.

Co-organized by KAS Vietnam and the USSH, the event attracted about 100 attendants.
