A comprehensive global solution is required for combating climate change. The growing demand for energy and the need for new ways to produce and use energy are key challenges to face the consequences of climate change. With the EU and Asia comprising a large part of the world’s population from both developed and developing countries, this public forum brought together experts from these socially and politically diverse regions. The key objectives of the workshop were to create greater awareness of challenges presented to the EU, Asia and Australia by climate change and to highlight the potential for multilateral co-operation on climate change issues in that context. Also, the event aimed at facilitating discussion at a time that coincides with crucial international engagement on environmental issues through the COP in Lima and the G20

Highlights of the event included a high quality roundtable discussion with more than 25 participants from universities, academic centres, environmental think tanks, international organisations, consulates, the private sector and the media. Furthermore, insights from leading climate change experts and policy-makers were shared during the event and led to discussion and dialogue between participants on a diverse range of perspectives. Positive feedback was received afterwards, highlighting the valuable impact the workshop has had on broadening knowledge.
