Canada is associated with endless expanses, bears and whales and very friendly people living peacefully together. The west coast city of Vancouver in particular attracts millions of tourists every year. For many well-educated people, Canada is the country of migration par excellence. What many do not know: Canada has been experiencing an uncontrolled drug crisis on an alarming scale for years. Thousands die of overdoses every year, and part of Vancouver's historic city center has been occupied by homeless people and drug addicts for years. While Canada is working with government and private stakeholders to address this situation, the numbers so far speak otherwise.
