KAF SUPPORTS AFRICAN PEER REVIEW MECHANISM

(APRM) DISSEMINATION WORKSHOP

FOR REGIONAL HOUSE OF CHIEFS IN WA, UPPER WEST REGION

7TH- 8TH APRIL 2006

Following Ghana’s successful completion of the African Peer Review Mechanism, the National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM-GC) which has the sole mandate to implement the APRM and supervise it’s monitoring and evaluation is embarking on a nationwide dissemination of the findings of the Country Review Report and the Programme of Action.

The objective of the programme is to engender dialogue and ownership of the APRM Report. Ghanaians need to acquaint themselves with the findings of the Report and the Programme of Action. Having engaged all stakeholders – the executive, parliamentarians, the judiciary, private sector, civil society and ordinary Ghanaians – during the implementation of the APRM Review, it is appropriate for Ghanaians from all walks of life to appreciate the findings of the Report.

The NAPRM-GC recognizes the important role of chiefs and traditional leaders in the governance and development process of this country. Indeed, the Country Review Report also recognized the role of chiefs, and the need for the chieftaincy institution to be reformed to remain relevant in current developmental paradigms. It is for this reason that NAPRM-GC in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation is organizing these series of dissemination workshops for Regional Houses of Chiefs in Upper East, Upper West and the Northern Regions. The workshops aim at:

  1. Disseminating the findings of the APRM Country Report and the Programme of Action;
  2. Educate traditional rulers on their monitoring and evaluation role in the implementation of Programme of Action.
  3. Solicit the views of the traditional rulers in the implementation of the Programme of Action alongside other development agenda of the country.
