Beginning of April, KAS Greece in collaboration with the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) held a conference on the “New” Erdogan era in Athens, involving numerous renowned international experts on Turkish issues. The event aimed to promote a fruitful discussion and an exchange of views between experts from different fields familiar with and interested in Turkey’s political developments.

The first panel, on domestic policy implications involved: Dorothée Schmid, Director, Contemporary Turkey Program, French Institute for International Relations (IFRI), Paris, Ioannis Grigoriadis, Assistant Professor, Bilkent University, Ankara; Research Fellow, ELIAMEP, Athens, Galip Dalay, Researcher, Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), Ankara, Günter Seufert, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), Berlin. The session was chaired by Colin Dürkop, Head, KAS Turkey Office, Ankara.

The second panel, on foreign policy implications involved: Henri Barkey, Cohen Professor & Department Chair, Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Nathalie Tocci, Deputy Director, Institute of International Relations (IAI), Rome, Mensur Akgün, Director, Global Political Trends Center (GPoT Center), Istanbul, Arad Nir, Foreign Affairs Editor, Channel 2 News, Jerusalem. The session was chaired by Thanos Dokos, Director-General, ELIAMEP, Athens.

The discussion covered all aspects of Turkey’s domestic and foreign Policy and generally how the "new" Erdogan era will affect the country and its neighbours, first and foremost in political, social and economic ways. The discussants analysed –among other points- the constitutional reforms, the situation with the Kurds in Turkey and also the lessons from the 2014 elections. A vivid discussion with the Greek audience, along with numerous interventions, followed.
