Journalists and Journalism students were eager to participate.

Vasilis Vasilopoulos, Web Content Manager at ERT spoke about Media Ethics, Quality Journalism and Deontology.

The second Seminar took place in December 2016.

Dr. George Giannakopoulos, Researcher at Demokritos Research Center spoke about the correct usage and potential of data.

KAS Athens invited Nicolas Kayser-Bril to speak about data-driven story telling.

More than 65 journalists participated.

Journalistic cooperation and Quality Journalism has been an important topic for KAS Greece in the past years.

The objective of the seminar series on journalism is to provide the participants with technical expertise on the latest media trends, as well as pose ethical and conduct questions on journalism.

The content, preparation and execution of the seminar series is done by Iakovos Dimitriou, KAS Research Assocate, and Elina Makri, Freelance Journalist.

The first seminar took place on 27 September with more than 45 enthusiastic journalism students and young professionals attending. The two speakers of the seminar focused on Quality Journalism. Vasilis Vasilopoulos, Web Content Manager at ERT made a thorough analysis on press ethics, editorial codes and deontology. Vasilopoulos used best practice examples from Greece and abroad.

Dimitris Messinis, former Senior Photo Editor EMEA at the Associated Press, explained the role of the journalist on the ground. A photo reporter himself, Messinis used practical examples and elaborated on new technologies.

The second seminar took place on 19 December and attracted around 65 participants. This time the speakers focused on Data Journalism. Dr. George Gianakopoulos, Researcher at Dimokritos Research Center, made a thorough introduction in data. Gianakopoulos ellaborated on the smart research and use of regular and big data and on the potential journalists have by using them. Nicolas Kayser-Bril, an experienced developer and data journalist from Berlin focused on data-driven story telling. Nicolas presented his project “The Migrant Files” in order to demonstrate on how to use data in order to tell a story.
