12th Five Year Plan: Challenges and Opportunities for the Social Sector

The seminar on the theme: “12th Five Year Plan: Challenges and Opportunities for the Social Sector”, was second in the year 2013 and part of a series of seminars jointly organised by ICRIER and KAS. The seminar focused on India’s low human development indicators and access to education and health vis-à-vis other countries, as well as the prospects that the country’s 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17) holds for improvements in this sector.

Graduation of the fifth batch of the Statesman Print Journalism School (SPJS)

On 9 May 2013, the KAS partner organization C. R. Irani Foundation and the SPJS organised their annual convocation program in Kolkata which marked the graduation ceremony of the current fifth batch of students of print journalism. The certificates were handed over to the nine graduates by senior journalist Hiranmay Karlekar. The ceremony was attended by guests from the media and economic sector and the German Consulate General.

From 09. until 11.04.2013, the KAS, in collaboration with the Centre for Public Affairs (CPA) and the India International Centre (IIC), conducted an event on “The India Parliament and Democratic Transformation” in Delhi.

In the course of the TERI-KAS Dialogue series „Strengthening environmental governance in the context of sustainable development“, the second dialogue on the marine and coastal ecosystem took place from 05.04 – 07.04.13 in Goa.

KAS and its local partner Center for Rural Entrepreneurship and Technical Education (CREATE), together with the Institute for Youth Development (IYD) and the Society for Sustainable Development (SSD), invited local representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) to a series of pilot workshops on PRI Curriculum Implementation and Evaluation.

Macroeconomic Context and Budget Priorities 2013-14

On 21st February 2013, KAS and ICRIER conducted the first quarterly Financial Sector Seminar on „Macroeconomic Context and Budget Priorities 2013-14” in Delhi. In this first out of four workshops, several experts discussed - along with an interested audience - the prospects and challenges of the macroeconomic in India and the prioritization for the next Budget.

In the workshops, five experts discussed - along with an interested audience - the impacts of inclusive growth on the services sector in India.

C. R. Irani Foundation-KAS Fourth Editors´ Conclave

From 11th till 13th of December 2012, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) in cooperation with its partner C. R. Irani Foundation organized the fourth Editors´ Conclave in Kolkata. Together with senior journalists and editors of The Statesman and leading national and regional daily newspapers as well as students from the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, the fifth post-graduate diploma course in English Print Journalism at The Statesman Print Journalism School (SPJS) discussed the topic “Media and Faith”.
