Economic Governance Strategies in the Age of FTAs - Foundation Office Japan / Regional Economic Programme Asia (SOPAS)
Symposium
Details
The failure of the Doha Round can hardly be ignored any longer. Still, an increasingly integrating world economy, documented both by intensifying global trade but also the growing number of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements, is in desperate need of a truly global economic governance and trade scheme designed to meet the challenges of our globalizing times.
Against this background, the KAS Regional Social and Economic Governance Programme Asia (SOPAS) in cooperation with the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) and supported by KAS Office Shanghai held a conference on “Economic Governance Strategies in the Age of FTAs” in Shanghai on the 5th of July. A number of high ranking representatives from the most important actors (countries and supranational institutions) in global trade evaluated the obstacles and potentials of both existing and emerging trade regimes.
