About

The KAS-ASEM Youth Summit, organized by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Cambodia in support of the 13 ASEM Summit and Cambodian chairmanship, is a public academic seminar where young students from Cambodia and other ASEM countries can join in a shared platform, exchange their ideas and advocate for a better world through their collective voice. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the uncertainty of hosting the conference in a physical format is high. Therefore, the KAS-ASEM Youth Summit 2021 is going to be conducted virtually. The outcomes of the conference, including the ASEM Youths’ Joint Statement and event report, will be published which can possibly serve as an insightful item for the ASEM government’s decision-making. 

 

Expected number of participants: 30-50. 

 

Objectives

  1. To build a collective platform of youths’ voices in support of the 13th ASEM Summit and the Cambodian ASEM Chairmanship
  2. To provoke critical thinking on some of the world’s most pressing issues
  3. To strengthen the network among the young population of ASEM

 

Eligibility criteria for youth delegates  

  • Needs to be enrolled in a senior grade of high school, a college, university, or graduate school
  • Needs to be proficient in English
  • Needs to be dedicated to this conference, open-minded, motivated, and responsible
  • Needs to hold the nationality of an ASEM member-country
  • Female applicants are highly encouraged

 

Youth Delegate’s Activities: 

  • Attending digital training programs
  • Getting into contact with relevant diplomats
  • Joining the full-day digital conference – presences in all three pillars’ discussions
  • Presenting position statements at least in one pillar discussion (optional or set by the board committees)
  • Submitting a final working paper
  • Contributing inputs in the ASEM Youths’ Joint-Statement formulation
