Workshop

Leadership and Integrity in the county government

This workshop was organized on the basis of questions raised by residents when the court fails to set clear verdicts that can help the community set up their own vetting local structures to allow for credible leadership in the county governments.

Chapter six of the 2010 constitution is very clear on the kind of leaders that should take up public offices in the county and national governments. Kenyans through the civil society have gone to the court seeking an interpretation and subsequent blocking of aspirants from running for various positions. The verdict of the court has left many wondering what the constitution really means under the circumstances.

The Makueni Advocacy and Paralegal Agency educates both residents and community based organizations, opinion shapers and sitting local leaders on community based non-lawyers and lobby groups. We have invited them to a consultative workshop with invited leaders from the county government to share the sentiments of the chapter and visit the legal perspective of the above topic.

It is our hope after this workshop the participants shall be able to disseminate the knowledge gained to the people on the ground and empower them to be able to challenge an indication of failure to stick to the rule of law.

Mr. Steve Ogolla is a lawyer and consultant in the Rule of Law Program for Sub-Saharan Africa, KAS. He is expected to take the participants through the legal technicalities of the above chapter and the court verdict before and the court verdict before elections on the validity of candidates before election 2013.
