From 27th-29th November 2013, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in cooperation with the Delegation of the German Industry to Kenya (AHK), the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), the Kenya Association of Manufactorers (KAM) and Strathmore University organized a training on energy efficiency. Among the participants were representatives from important Kenyan enterprises such as “Tropical Heat”, “Ketepa Tea”, and “Sarova Hotels”.

On the first day of the training, a general introduction on the importance of energy efficiency was given, familiarizing the participants with the topic. The introduction served also an opportunity for the facilitators to find out which specific topics are most important and should be dealt with more thoroughly.

Following the introduction, the participants attended one of two panels, either on energy efficiency in food processing or in the building sector. Here, in-depth questions were dealt with by teams of international experts on the second day of the training.

After having looked at energy efficiency in theory, two on-site trainings dealt with the practical aspects of energy efficiency in food processing and the building sector. Participants of the panel on the building sector visited a shopping mall, getting an insight into energy efficiency in the management of such a building. The second group visited a dairy company, thereby enhancing their knowledge on energy efficient food processing.
