Details

Investigative journalism in Africa – why is it so important? What are the challenges? And how to deal with sources? These were the topics dealt with at the "Power Reporting Workshop" held at Johannesburg's University of Witwatersrand from 3rd until 5th September 2007. Attended by more than 170 Journalists from 23 African countries the workshop was a mere success. In different panels the participants learned to organize their investigations, how to find out about the racketeering of rulers and how to detect corruption.

During the workshop the participants were able to exchange experiences with Sheila Coronel, the founder of the Phillippine Centre for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), crime journalist Michael Gillard and well- known radio journalist Margret Renn amongst others.

The Sub- Sahara- Media Programme contributed the workshop and presented the brand new "Investigative Journalism Manual" to the experts. The manual develops with the help of different project partners and you will be able to download it through the KAS website.
