On the 18th of July, the Peace Nobel Prize winner’s birthday, everyone is encouraged to spend 67 minutes of their time to help others. It’s 67 minutes because Mandela himself has fought for freedom against the apartheid regime for 67 years of his life.

The visit at the Community center in the township of Soweto, southwest of Johannesburg, was intended to bring happiness to the about 40 children living there. Most of the approximately 100 residents of the center are refugees from the neighboring country of Zimbabwe.

In order to reach this goal, KAS Media Africa cooperated with the South African organization 1000Drawings that sponsored watercolour, crayons and paper. This way, the children could not only get active in a sporty but also in a creative way. 1000Drawings organizes so called “doodle-sessions” throughout the whole year. People meet in different places in and around Johannesburg to draw anything on anything size A5. It does not matter what you draw, the only thing that counts is that you express yourself in doing so. Every year in autumn all the artwork produced by children, grown-ups and professionals is shown to the public and sold for a R100 (7,50 Euro) each. The revenue is given to charity.

The children living in the community center in Soweto gave their drawings to 1000drawings, too. This way, they contributed to make this world a better place – just as Mandela would have liked it.
