Workshop for political communication experts: "How to organise online events successfully?"

by Manuela Anastasova
The coronavirus pandemic has changed the daily work of institutions, authorities, companies and the media worldwide. As a result, the work processes have to be reorganised and especially online. Since the beginning of the crisis, new online formats such as online meetings and conferences have been established. Although the content of certain topics remains unchanged, the organisation of online events is a challenge with various aspects which should be taken into account.

Considering this background, the Media Programme South East Europe of the Konrad-Adenauer-Sitftung (KAS), in collaboration with Robert Hein, communications trainer and political advisor, hosted an interactive workshop on May 14, which dealt with the most important technical and organisational aspects of online events.

The online training was tailored to political communication experts from South East Europe. Ten participants from Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Brussels took part in it.

The online training was opened by Hendrik Sittig, Head of the KAS Media Programme South East Europe. At the beginning of the workshop, he said that in times of the coronavirus, online formats can be adapted very quickly. However, in his opinion, it is important to use the technologies more efficiently, even when offline events are again possible.

The main topics of the training were the necessary hardware and software for online events, their implementation and time schedule as well as the development of a social media strategy.

The participants showed great interest in the workshop and reported a lot about their experiences with online meetings.

The KAS Media Programme South East Europe will organise workshops on the topic also in the future.
