The KAS SUR-PLACE Scholarship Program in the Republic of Moldova supports outstanding students who combine strong academic performance with a clear commitment to civic and political engagement. Through financial assistance, mentoring, and a tailored educational offer, the program aims to strengthen young talents and empower them to contribute actively to the democratic development of the country.
This initiative reflects the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung’s broader mission to promote democracy, the rule of law, and European values by investing in the next generation of civic-minded leaders. One of the core beliefs behind this program is that young people should be encouraged and prepared to take responsibility in shaping decisions across politics, economy, academia, media, culture, and civil society. Supporting talented and motivated students is seen as a direct investment in the future — and in Moldova’s capacity to have a resilient and participatory society and to build accountable and visionary leadership. The program is part of KAS Moldova’s broader efforts to engage and support youth, especially students, by offering opportunities for professional, personal and civic development.
SUR-PLACE scholarships are awarded to Moldovan undergraduate students (1st or 2nd year of Bachelor’s studies) from any academic discipline who:
- are enrolled in a university in the Republic of Moldova;
- show active involvement in social and/or political life;
- achieve strong academic results;
- identify with the values of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung;
- aspire to a career in public service, media, civil society, academia or politics;
- speak at least one foreign language (knowledge of German is considered an advantage);
- are willing to participate in the foundation’s trainings and events — participation in all activities organized within the KAS SUR-PLACE program is mandatory.
The scholarship is awarded for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension for up to an additional 12 months.
By implementing this program, KAS Moldova empowers young people who are committed to civic values and leadership. The SUR-PLACE scholarship is not only a form of financial support, but a long-term investment in Moldova’s democratic future.
