The aim of the latest event was to enrich the discussion and public knowledge with a chain of arguments that had not been mentioned during the first event. The presentations and proceedings focussed on the to be expected economic impact of the project in terms of rapid rises in the price per kW/h for the consumer and necessary state-guarantees resulting in a strain for tax-payers’ money; furthermore the forum discussed the question, whether there are viable alternatives or not. The discussions that ensued were very fulfilling and constructive.

The tenor among the presentations was that given the high risks in terms of technical realisation and financial impact, it is much more beneficial for the country to focus on decentralised, renewable energy options than to invest in “Kudu-Gas-to-Power”. Siseho Simasiku, previous Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and for 14 years CEO of the Electricity Control Board expressed strong reservations against the planned project on behalf of the Consumer Advocates Electricity (CAE).

Despite very short notice, the forum enjoyed a very good attendance and triggered a considerable echo in the media. The two events are two of many planned on the subject of climate change and energy solutions for the future.
