The Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized the gathering as a contribution to providing a platform and expertise to discuss the opportunities as well as challenges confronting Namibia in the energy sector. This conference is a build-up on the earlier gathering on Renewable Energy hosted jointly with the EU-Parliamentary support programme and USAID in April 2014 at Parliament.

The conference benefitted from the presence of Hon. Isak Kataki, Minister of Mines and Energy, Hon. Ben Amadhila, Member of Parliament as well as other experts that included prof. Oliver Ruppel from Stellenbosch University and Dr. Zivayi Chiguvare, Director of the Energy Institute at Polytechnic. The facts from the conference reveal that Namibia and SADC in general is confronted by serious energy security issues. However, for Namibia, Minister Katali said there are positive prospects on the horizon for the country’s energy sector despite the current serious energy challenges facing Namibia. He mentioned the Kudu gas and the Baynes Hydropower projects as well as others in the region as good initiatives that could generate excess electricity in future if they materialized. He also referred to the fuel storage and offloading jetty facility, to be constructed in Walvis Bay. The various experts made their presentations and constructive discussion ensued thereafter. Recommendations were made and the conference ended on a positive note.
