Norbert Lammert introduces the book 'Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Namibia'

Norbert Lammert introduced the KAF published book Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Namibia in Windhoek.

In the presence of the chief justice, numerous judges, lawyers, law professors, diplomats, high ranking members of the justice ministry, representatives of human rights organisations and civil society as well as the press (TV, radio and print), Lammert pointed out that the book deals with ’a particuarly important and necessary project’. In his speech he referred to the independence of the judiciary as a central and indispensible element of democratic societies governed by the rule of law. Lammert also stressed the unique nature of German political foundations, and elaborated on their mandate of democracy promotion. He spoke about the activities of the KAS in general, and of its engagement in rule of law related activities in particular. He spoke about the activities of the KAS in Namibia and encouraged the participants to take part in KAS events. He said he was particularly proud of the KAS’s achievements in promoting the role of women in modern society.
