In his speech he referred to the independence of the judiciary as a central and indispensible element of democratic societies governed by the rule of law. Lammert also stressed the unique nature of German political foundations, and elaborated on their mandate of democracy promotion. He spoke about the activities of the KAS in general, and of its engagement in rule of law related activities in particular. He spoke about the activities of the KAS in Namibia and encouraged the participants to take part in KAS events. He said he was particularly proud of the KAS’s achievements in promoting the role of women in modern society.
